- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup margarine (recommend: Earth Balance )
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 Tbs. molassass
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves

- 1/2 Tbs. cinnamon
- 2 cups white flour
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
Directions
These cookies commemorate the Great Molasses Flood January 15, 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Cream the sugar and margarine. Add the molassass and apple sauce. In another bowl sift together the flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and baking soda. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix well. Fold in the chocolate chips. Roll small balls of dough in a bowl of sugar before putting on the cookie sheet. Lastly, press down with a fork (for looks, make cross marks). Bake for 10-12 minutes and let cool. A great November and December cookie.
